Mining is a vibrant and diverse industry with a wide variety of roles available. The skills needed to work in mining today and into the future are very different to what was needed in the past. Opportunities now range from boilermaking to geology, from human resources to finance, from engineering to communications, just to name a few….

The structure of the workforce has changed also. An increasing number of women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are enjoying the benefits of working in the industry.

Despite the challenges NSW has faced in recent times from drought, bushfires and COVID-19, the mining industry has been comparatively resilient. With new mines planned to be opened in coming years, it makes a career in mining worth considering.
