NSW Cross Border Commissioner and NSW Regional Town Water Supply Coordinator
James McTavish was appointed NSW Cross Border Commissioner in July 2014 and as the NSW Regional Town Water Supply Coordinator in January 2019. He has been working in this dual role to advocate for border communities and address cross-border anomalies as well as to ensure every regional town in NSW has safe, clean drinking water.
James will continue in this dual role into 2020, working with agencies including WaterNSW, Department of Primary Industries, NSW Health, local councils, water utilities, Bureau of Meteorology and the new dedicated Office of Drought Response to provide short-term fixes and long-term solutions to address water issues many regional towns are facing.
James has held appointments as Infantry Officer in the Australian Regular Army and the Murrumbidgee Region Controller for the NSW State Emergency Service. He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding service as the Chief of Staff Army Recruit Training Centre (Kapooka) in 2010 and the Emergency Services Medal (ESM) for outstanding service as Murrumbidgee Region Controller in 2013.
